Marmet West Virginia – Military Job Profile
When the US Army Corps of Engineers had questions about how to rehabilitate a 30 inch diameter storm line that was thirty feet deep US Pipelining LLC. had the answers. Early on in the job project US Pipelining LLC. was contacted by a US Army Corps of Engineer. Aside from the usual questions about CIPP, some of the more serious concerns were,
“Will Cured-in-place pipelining work in this application?”
& “How long of a shot can be made at one time?”.
The Army core engineer went on to explain the overall scenario. The thirty inch diameter storm line had been recently installed. Due to the depth of the pipe at 30 feet as well as the fact it was located 100 feet adjacent to a recently constructed dam called the Marmet Lock, the pipe was taking on water and soil. After closer diagnosis by US Sewer it had quickly been determined that the 1,740 foot run was failing due to poor compaction as well as settlement above the pipe and at the joints.
Working closely with the Army Corps of Engineers, a plan was quickly devised to rehabilitate the pipe using a 30 inch diameter by 24.5 mm in thickness lining material. Due to the heavy water infiltration and severity of the host pipe a “Pre-liner” was applied before the liner instillation. Resin would also play a key roll in the success of the project. An “Enhanced resin” was requested by the Army Corps. US Pipelining LLC. along with the Army Corps Engineers worked hand and hand with US Pipelining resins manufacture to come up with an Enhanced resin that would ultimately add more strength to the end product.
We are pleased to say that this story has a happy ending. After hours of hard work and perseverance the US Pipelining LLC. crew got the job done. Congratulations to Eric Stansbury, Ruben Santiago, Terry Seeberger and the rest of the US Pipelining LLC. crew for “sticking it out” in a tough situation. Thank you to the “Applied Felts” company for their cooperation on the project. US Pipelining LLC. is pleased to say it purchases all of it lining materials large and small from Applied Felts Company and would recommend their services to everyone in the pipelining industry.
